This film takes a deep dive into the experiences of a young Muslim student activist, Fahad Ahmad, a student who was a part of the Anti-CAA movement from its inception in Mumbai. The film also tries to trace the history, events and moments of the movement that made it a historic movement.

The Re-imagining citizenship research consortium aims to CHRONICLE the emergent contentions over citizenship in India in the wake of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) enacted in December 2019.

Shaheen Bagh is an idea that has inspired a nation. An idea of inclusion and love that chose to fight for and reclaim lost spaces. It was a wake up call that brought people together; it created hope where it did not exist before. This film is an essay into the life of a young, Muslim woman, a teacher, a mother of two, who participated for the first time in a civil society protest. This is the journey of Nilofer Sheikh and the Anti-CAA movement in Maharashtra. “Now everyone knows me as ‘Nilofer – Mumbai Bagh” she says about her. The film seeks to see the protest from the point of view of a Muslim woman. One who led the protest from the front to the utter amazement of the rest of the world.

What defines India? What makes us ‘the Indian people’? What holds together a country with the diversity of a continent? More than anything else it’s our Constitution in whose preamble we, the people of India, define ourselves with the virtues we revere and seek to preserve and uphold. In the continuing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the upcoming NPR-NRC, it is once again the time to look back at the diversity of our country, its geography and its people, and our constitutional virtues.

In this video Naseeruddin Shah reads the preamble of the constitution and T. M. Krishna sings the national anthem and we are reminded that more than anything else India is its people.
