#DelhiRiots2020 | Moving On And Remembering

2 years ago we met Safdar, a tailor and resident of Shiv Vihar, North East Delhi. He had to flee his home as mobs of Hindu nationalist men surrounded his neighbourhood and looted and burnt houses of Muslims. As he was escaping with his family, a bottle of acid fell on him and burnt parts of his neck and head.

2 years later, Safdar has relocated to another apartment in Shiv Vihar and struggles to make ends meet. He is drowning in debt and cannot afford to send his 3 children to school. We also met Rubina, a tailor, who lives in another part of Shiv Vihar. Rubina has not been able to overcome the trauma of the riots. She lost all her belongings when the mob looted her home. Today, with no compensation provided to her, Rubina and her daughter stitch masks to make a living. Life has not been the same ever since as she is fearful of living in a Hindu neighbourhood.
