WILL INDIA’S WORKING POOR BE HEARD?

The pandemic and lockdown had impacted the lives of the daily wage labourers the most. Till date, they struggle to survive.

From barely managing to find work to being exploited by employers, at Company Bagh, a labour chowk in Delhi one can only witness men and women in desperate need of work.

The labourers are unorganised, daily wage labourers and since they are homeless too, there is no one to look after them.

Since there is no support from the government as well, will they ever be heard and will their lives ever be normal?

" It has been 10 days.

I haven't got a single

penny's work."

"They offer us one kind of work

and then make us do something else

when we reach there."

"They chained me

so that I could not

escape."

"Only 5% of the employers

pay our wages."

treat us right and

"When I asked them

to pay me,

they showed me a rifle."

"The moment a car comes

all the labourers surround it,

asking for work."

"We are helpless.

We don't have any option."
